CNN —The US Soccer Federation and the Mexican Football Federation have withdrawn their joint bid to host the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the two organizations announced on Monday. The announcement of the winning 2027 bid will take place at the 74th FIFA Congress in May. CNN —The owner of a casino empire is preparing to buy a majority share of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks franchise from billionaire businessman Mark Cuban, according to multiple media reports. The Adelson family will purchase a majority share of the Mavericks from Cuban for $3.5 billion, according to media reports that cited sources familiar with the deal. The deal will reportedly see Cuban retain partial ownership of the Mavericks franchise and remain in control of the team’s basketball operations. Attorneys for the unnamed player, who is referred to as “John Doe” in the lawsuit, say he was inspired by former Blackhawks player Kyle Beach, who sued the team in 2021 over its handling of similar sexual assault allegations Beach made against Aldrich in 2010. The Blackhawks declined to comment on specific details of the suit, in a Monday statement, citing ongoing litigation. The report concluded that Aldrich had engaged in sexual misconduct in 2010 and senior Blackhawks leaders failed to “promptly and thoroughly investigate” Beach’s assault allegation. Aldrich resigned from the Blackhawks in 2010.

CNN —Longtime Boston Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield died Sunday morning at age 57, the team announced in a news release. “Our hearts are broken with the loss of Tim Wakefield,” the Red Sox posted on X on Sunday. His 186 victories in his Red Sox career are just six behind team record-setters Young and Roger Clemens. At his retirement announcement in February 2012, Wakefield said all he ever wanted to do was to help the Red Sox be champions. “Tim’s kindness and indomitable spirit were as legendary as his knuckleball,” said Red Sox owner John Henry.
